My name is Jenna M. and I'm extremely interested in becoming a
fashion stylist/personal shopper. I toured 20 countries in Europe to
get more fashion ideas and I've become very serious about this
pursuit. I'm just confused on how to get started. I'm moving to
either Indianapolis or Nashville and would like to know if you are
familiar with any stylists in those cities. I just need to get my
foot in somewhere.
I've already done a few jobs for my family and friends and I know
that I would excellent at the job. I need to find the right people
to let me get started. Any suggestions would help.

Shea's response:

Hi Jenna,
Passion is the first thing to have when coming into this business
and it sounds like you have it.
I am unfamiliar with stylists in the states you have mentioned, but
I can tell you ways of finding some? Google is a big resource to me.
Go there and plug in Image Consultant, Personal Shopper etc. in
those states and see what comes up. Also, check out Craigslist and
see what you can find?
To start your own business you need to start by getting a cliental
base. You also need to find out what your services and costs will
be. Advertise on places like Craigslist - its free and everybody
uses it. Referrals are the best. Again, find other sites of stylists
and see how they run their business. Feel free to check out my site
and get some ideas.

Now if you want to work with a store as a personal shopper I know
that Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus have departments in which you can
apply for.
I hope I have given you plenty of information to more forward.
Remember, no one is going to do the work for you. You have to work
very hard the first two years. Perseverance, motivation and
personality are everything. Don't give up! It is worth it!
