Fashion Stylist Q&A
Q: What’s
in and what’s out this summer?
(Posted Apr, 2006)
A: Summer 2006 looks very
exciting. Great fabrics textured with eyelet and embroidered details. 60's
inspired bubble dresses and skirts are really in for summer as well as
babydoll cuts. Shorts are making a come back with added pleat details in the
front. You can pair your shorts up with some chunky heels or wear them with
embroidered flip flops. Wood and natural fabrics are a big trend for shoes
this summer.
Q: Is
"pink" still the hot color?
A: Color is actually very
hot right now. Not just pink but shades of mint, chai and orange.
Q: I'm
looking for a trendy turtleneck. I love black and I have fair skin, what
should a guy do?
A: A good trendy turtleneck
would be something with bold prints or unique fabrics. You will probably
find this more in the fall/winter season.
Q: What
is the hottest maternity fashion trend this season?
(Posted Dec, 2005)
A: Maternity trends tend to
follow current fashion trends. The great news is that now there are a lot of
fashion forward maternity wear. Here are some websites that have trendy
maternity clothes:
www.naissancematernity.com,
www.apeainthepod.com,
www.babtstyle.com,
www.lizlang.com
Q: Hey
there, I was just wondering... You know those long skirts that are in
fashion now? I was wondering what kind of top goes with them? I'm not into
sleeveless tops ...
A: These long skirts look
really great with layered tank tops, t shirts or chunky sweaters. Since it
is a little chilly to wear tank tops you can layer with a great denim jacket
and cashmere scarf.
Q: I have
been in the corporate world for the last 17 years and our company has gone
business casual for the last five. I am going to a black tie optional
wedding this weekend and wearing a black knit skirt/suit. I was wondering if
black stockings are still in and if the strappy sandal with bare feet and
legs are still in?
A: If you are wearing a
black knit skirt/suit i suggest stockings and closed toe shoes. Because knit
is usually heavier it looks better with closed toe shoes. stockings/tights
are worn a lot more during the fall season in many different textures.
Strappy sandals with bare feet works best in the spring/summer.
Q: Can
you recommend a brand of sneakers that are very comfortable and come in a
lot of different colors?
(Posted Sep, 2005)
A: For colorful sneakers,
do a search on the Internet and then see if it was rated for comfort and
durability.
Q: I have
been trying like mad to find a dress I saw Sarah Michelle Gellar wear to the
19th Annual Christmas in Washington. It's a very simple white backless dress
that I think looks fantastic. Any idea where this is from and how I can get
one in time for the holidays? I would be so eternally grateful!
A: SMG wears a lot of BCBG.
You may want to check them out.
Q: I find
that my 34C bras fit well in the cup, but a little to snug around the ribs.
If I go up to a 36C the cup stays the same, but it will fit better around
the ribs/back, am I correct?
A: In this case i would
definitely ask a lingerie expert. At Nordstrom they will fit you and make
sure you are wearing the right size. You would be surprised at how many
women are wearing the wrong size. This could easily fix your problem. Also
trying different brands like Wacoal and chandelle that have a little more
elasticity in the rib area. Investing in a good bra will change your life
for the better.
Q: My
daughter will be married in October in Northern California. It will be a
fairly informal wedding and she is wearing a long off white chiffon layered
dress and "strappy" shoes. She insists that stockings are not appropriate
with toe-less shoes. I think the outfit looks unfinished considering the
occasion. Who is right?
(Posted Aug, 2005)
A: Sorry mom, but your
daughter is absolutely right! stockings should NOT be worn with strappy
shoes. I should also add that they will not be visible with a long chiffon
dress. Have a great wedding.
Q: Hey!
I'm a 17 year old teenage girl. I'm the comfy kind of girl. I like GAP and
Abercrombie cute kind of clothes, and I'm not very dressy. The only thing
is, Abercrombie is majorly expensive and I can't afford to wear Abercrombie
everything. Do you know any cheaper stores/or styles that offer the same
look for less? Thanks!
A: Depending on where you
live you can find fashionable inexpensive clothes at places like H & M,
Forever 21, Reference, Hottie, and Target.
Q: I just
bought a Long red halter dress w/red glitter designs and I already have
after five shoes. One pair is a light silver satin strappy w/rhinestones and
the other is a clear slip-on with a clear heel. Will either one of those
work or should I go with black shoes? And what color purse?
(Posted July, 2005)
A: Silver and red might
make your dress look a little too holiday-ish. I would suggest a black
strappy shoe with a black evening clutch.
Q: How
can someone develop their own personalstyle? I would like to know if there
is a certain formula I can follow or something to help me.
A: I help my clients find
there own personal style by there lifestyle. Staying current and having the
right fitting clothes are definitely important factors.
Q: I am
going to Las Vegas soon and I have these wild shoes I've been dying to wear.
They are fuchsia croc sling backs with a silver stiletto heel. I know they
may sound tacky but they are cute. I don't know what to wear with them
though. I don't want to look like a prostitute but I do want to have and
out-of-the-ordinary look for myself while in Vegas. Can you suggest anything
to wear with a funky pair of shoes?
A: "what happens in Vegas
stays in Vegas" also applies to fashion in Vegas! If you are going to base
your outfit on a wild pair of shoes, then keep the rest simple like a little
black cocktail dress. Make sure you see those shoes!
Q: My wardrobe only seems to consist of work clothes,
but I need something quickly for a special occasion. Suggestions?
(Posted June, 2005)
A: If
you are wearing suiting to work, spice it up with a fun, sexy top
underneath. for evening, take off the jacket, add some accessories,
different shoes, maybe a shawl if its too cold, apply some lip gloss. your
set for an after work function. items such as shoes and accessories are
small and easy to bring to work with you.
Q: I have a beer belly and would like to make it
less obvious. Do you have any advice?
A: You
need to have more flow in your clothing. choose bottoms that fall on your
natural waist line and tops that are looser. you really want to avoid
clothing made with spandex or lycra. they are very clingy and will extenuate
your beer belly. also, focus on your positive attributes and show them off
so your not focusing just on your belly.
Q: I want to hide rolls above my waist. What can I
wear?
A: Try
bottoms that are not so low. you really have to try different labels to see
the fit. they also make undergarments that will help hold those love handles
in place (like spanx, i love em!).
