Q:
What are Hair Extensions?
A: Hair extensions are human, animal or
synthetic commercial hair that is attached to one's own natural hair
through various methods to lengthen or thicken one's hair
temporarily or semi-permanently for a natural or fantasy look. Some
installation methods can include Basic Hair Weaving, Advanced Hair
Weaving, Piggyback Weaving, Strand-by-Strand, Micro Rings, Fusion,
Pinch Braids, Weave Perfection, Front Lace hair pieces, Weave
Closures, Interlocking, Crotchet Weave, and on and on. Your hair
extensionist should know which installation method will work best
with your natural hair to achieve your desired look.
Q: Will extensions damage my
natural hair?
A: If hair extensions are done properly by a
qualified extensionist, there should be no more damage to the hair
than that caused by normal combing and brushing of ones natural hair
on a daily basis. It is very important to have an expert do your
hair extensions and that she or he thoroughly explain how to
maintain your style for optimum healthy hair.
Q: Clip-in Extensions: How do I
maintain them?
A: You treat hair extensions like natural
hair. Shampoo with a detangling shampoo for dry hair and follow up
with a moisturizing conditioner. My favorite Shampoo is Cream of
Nature Detangling Shampoo and Matrix's Sleek. Look conditioner.
NEVER sleep on your extensions while wet or damp to avoid matting
and possible damage to your natural hair! Comb all the tangles out
before wetting or shampooing hair and for longer lengths be sure to
braid or tie up the hair before sleeping on it.

Q: Hair Extensions: How much
do they cost?
A: Cost for hair extensions can vary according
to the area you live in, the stylist's experience, the quality of
hair used and the time it takes to do your particular method of
choice. Extensions can be done for as little as $35 a row/track on
up to thousands of dollars.
Q: Hair Extensions: How long
should they last?
A: Hair Weaving or Strand-by-Strand Extensions
should last for at least 2 to 3 months regardless of the method
used. If they are not lasting that long then there is likely a
problem in the installation or the daily maintenance program.
CAUTION: No hair extensions should be worn longer than 3 months
in-between tightenings or re-dos to avoid breakage or damage to your
natural hair no matter what!
